FINANCIAL WELLBEING AS A PARENT OR CARER

Balance financial wellbeing with your other priorities

FIND YOUR BALANCE

Parents and carers face a unique set of challenges when it comes to financial wellbeing. It’s no secret that becoming a parent brings with it a raft of additional expenses. Estimates suggest that between childcare costs, education and clothing etc., the overall cost of a child up to age 18 can be around £151,000. For single parents, it can be as much as £185,000.

Similarly, carers may be expected to meet the expense of home adaptations, care in the home or residential care, and higher transportation costs.

Additionally, as a parent or a carer, you may be more likely to work part-time or not at all and therefore already be on a reduced income.

When your financial wellbeing is affected by others, balancing the books can seem impossible, let alone saving for the future. But there are practical steps you can take to improve your financial security. Taking action sooner rather than later is key.
